Experimental Piece

Here's an experimental piece I did when I was playing about with wax resist and watercolour.
Shows a bit of the influence of Egon Schiele I think.

Large Painting of Rubén

This painting is a bit larger than the life studies I usually do. It is about 30" x 20".
I left it after a few hours because I liked the quick sketchy quality that it has, and I moved on to do the portrait study below for the last hour and a half.

A Day in the Life

Here's a A Day in the Life piece that the Evening Herald did on me yesterday.
Conor de Lion did a very nice piece based on a long conversation but I'm not mad about the photo which they got on file somewhere.

Two Views of Sophie

Here's a painting I did of Sophie last week. My drawing pal Ronan Goti took a photo of me at work.
I spent most of the day (about five hours) working on this one, but I was much happier with this nice simple rear view I did of Sophie at the end of the day (about an hour and a half).

A Selection of My Life Drawings

Here is a video I put together showing a bunch of my life drawings.
Hopefully I'll be able to do something similar with my life paintings soon.

An Unfinished Self Portrait

I often advise younger artists to use themselves as models if other models are hard to come by, and when I was younger I found my own physiognomy the most fascinating subject to draw and paint. But now, as I am getting older I find it much more difficult to raise the enthusiasm to do self portraits.
I wonder is it to do with simple vanity or the lack of it as I mature? Now I rarely look in the mirror if I'm not brushing my teeth.
Or is it something to do with the difficulty of confronting what we have become rather than looking at the potential that we all have as youngsters.
Anyway, here's an unfinished self portrait that I managed recently.
